Damian Scannell has signed a new deal with Tonbridge – but others are playing the waiting game.
Midfielder Scannell was quick to accept a one-year contract, although some members of Steve McKimm’s squad want to see what league Angels will be in next season.
Tonbridge are fifth in the Ryman League Premier Division – the final play-off spot – with promotion to National League South the aim.
Boss McKimm said: “I don’t just give deals out left, right and centre – you’ve got to earn it and Scans has done that.
“He’s played right-back and centre-midfield and reads the game so well, distributes the ball well and gets stuck in.
“He’s earned the right to get a new deal and within 24 hours he came back and said he wanted to sign.
“I’ve got two or three who are waiting to see what league we’re in as to whether they commit, which I understand because players want to play as high as they can."
Angels drew 0-0 with Dulwich last weekend and are looking for a first league win in seven games at home to Harlow on Saturday. They’ve been badly hit by injuries, but are hanging on in the race for a play-off place.
McKimm said: “Because we’ve been there or thereabouts all season, it’s expected we’ll stay in there but that’s not football.
“If we’d had everyone fit, then who knows where we’d be, but we’ve got six games left and if we win five we should be in the play-offs."
