Kent youngsters have enjoyed further success in tennis.
The under-9 boys are through to the National Finals (South Region) after beating Hampshire & IOW 6-0, Sussex 6-0, Dorset 5-1 and Surrey 4-2. They’re off to Bath on Sunday to compete against the other group winners.
The girls finished third in their group after losing 5-1 to Hampshire & IOW in their final game.
It was much closer than the scoreline suggested, with three of the matches decided 10-9 in Hampshire’s favour.
Other results saw the girls beat Sussex 5-1, draw 3-3 with Dorset and lose 4-2 to Surrey.
Kent’s under-10 girls held their nerve to beat Middlesex in a championship tiebreak and win their regional group.
After 6-0 wins over Berkshire and Essex, the final match was evenly poised after the singles and doubles were shared.
Middlesex were 5-3 up in the tiebreak but Judy Zhang and Isla Smith turned it around for a 10-5 triumph.
The under-10 boys also took their group after a 6-0 demolition of Sussex. That followed a whitewash against Hampshire and a 4-2 win over Dorset.
The under-11s play their final game in June, knowing victory would complete a clean sweep of regional wins for the boys.
