Defender Alex Finney has left Tonbridge after only three weeks - after receiving an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Finney, who joined the Angels from National South champions Ebbsfleet on June 1, has quit Longmead for Eastbourne Borough.
The 27-year-old’s move to Tonbridge saw him reunited with Jay Saunders, his old manager at Maidstone.
He’d been looking forward to working with Saunders again and attended Tuesday’s opening pre-season training session.
But the former QPR man is on the move again following a big offer from Angels’ fellow National South club.
A Tonbridge statement said: “Tonbridge Angels FC can confirm that Alex Finney will no longer be joining the club for the 2023/24 season.
“Alex agreed terms with TAFC several weeks ago and attended our first pre-season training session on Tuesday 20 June.
“He was subsequently approached by Eastbourne Borough FC and offered a deal which significantly exceeds our wage structure.
“Having spoken with Alex, we understand that this is an offer he feels he cannot refuse, and he therefore will not continue with TAFC.
“This is obviously disappointing, but our focus now is on building the best squad possible to compete in the upcoming National League South campaign.”
Just this week, Saunders addressed the amount of money being spent in non-league football, speaking of an “unrealistic market”.
