Tonbridge Juddians struck first but hosts Guernsey hit their stride in the second half for a 25-14 win in National League 2 East.
Judds made the most of a slight gradient in their favour and a gentle breeze at their backs, taking just four minutes to open the scoring with Jake Hardcastle going over. Tom White added the extras.
A Guernsey penalty reduced TJs' lead to four points but the visitors claimed a second try when debutant Ben Moore sidefooted into the in-goal area before touching down. White converted for a 14-3 lead.
Judds' lack of care with the ball however then allowed Guernsey to make ground and they crossed for a converted score with the final play of the first half.
After the break it was all about the Islanders - they dominated possession and territory to put TJs on the back foot and edged in front with a lineout-driven try.
The game remained in the balance until the 77th minute when a third Guernsey try made it 22-14 to deny TJs a losing bonus point. A last-minute penalty from the hosts rounded off the scoring.
Tonbridge, in sixth, host Henley on Saturday.
