Steve McKimm told Tonbridge’s players to enjoy the moment after Chris Kinnear’s last-minute equaliser at Thurrock.

Angels were heading for a fourth Bostik Premier defeat in a row until Kinnear made it 2-2 on Tuesday.

Boss McKimm saw the point as something to celebrate and told the team to get their heads up.

He said: “My only criticism of the boys is they didn’t celebrate the point as they should have done.

“If that had been another team scoring a last-minute equaliser against Tonbridge Angels, they would be banging on the door and singing and shouting but my boys sat in the dressing room deflated.

“We’re on a run of three defeats and it was looking like becoming four so we’ve got to enjoy and cherish and value moments like that.

“There’s an old saying that you can’t get too high or too low but you can’t always be on medium.”

The dressing room picked up after McKimm’s message – but only just.

He added: “What I said registered but they weren’t exactly singing from the rooftops. They’re such an honest bunch and they do take things to heart.

“It hurts them when they don’t win and when they don’t please people who have paid money to watch.

“You take the rough with the smooth but when it’s smooth, you should enjoy it.”

Tonbridge lost 2-1 at Harlow last Saturday, Alex Akrofi with a first-half equaliser.

Akrofi scored again as Angels led at Thurrock, with Kinnear’s late strike salvaging a point.

It’s FA Cup weekend on Saturday, leaving Tonbridge without a game after their exit at Faversham a fortnight ago. The squad will train instead.
