Midfielder Adam Lovatt has taken his chance in the Football League after his loan spell at Tonbridge - and could end up playing at Wembley.
Lovatt has played the last three games for Sutton in League 2 since the U’s recalled him from National South Angels.
He completed his latest 90 minutes on Tuesday night as Sutton, chasing back-to-back promotions, won 3-1 at struggling former Premier League outfit Oldham.
And with Sutton through to the Football League Trophy final at Wembley next month, things could get even better for Lovatt, who spent a large chunk of the season with Tonbridge.
“He’s played three games in a week in League 2, so he’s done something right,” said Tonbridge boss Steve McKimm.
“Sutton have had injuries, which is unfortunate for those players, but they’ve trusted Adam to go back and play.
“They’ve got a Wembley appearance coming up (they play League 1 leaders Rotherham in the final on April 3), so, who knows, he might even up playing at Wembley.
“He probably didn’t see any of this coming himself until last week. It was only sorted out on the Sunday.
“He’s a very good player. We’ve helped him and he’s helped us.
“We’ve kept him match-fit, just in case he got the call to go back to Sutton, and that’s what loans are about.
“The injuries are unfortunate for others but then what Adam’s got to do is show them what he’s got and it’s up to them to decide if he’s for them. He’s done brilliantly.”
