Teenage Kent sailor Chloe Martin helped Britain to win the best nation trophy at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships.
The 18-year-old, from Tonbridge, was one of a 10-strong team which helped Britain win the trophy for the first time in 12 years at Arhus, Denmark on Friday (18th) after a seven-day competition.
Sailing the single hander Laser Radial dinghy in a tough 40-strong fleet of competitors, she finished 13th overall and achieved three top ten results in the 12-race series, including a second in the penultimate race.
The Volvo Trophy rates each nation’s performance, race by race, to come up with an overall series score at the end. Great Britain won the trophy with a day to spare ahead of New Zealand in second place and defending champions Australia in third.
RYA Youth Racing Manager, Simon Wergan said: “There is no doubt in my mind that there are some very special sailors in this group. We really sailed as a team and when people have needed to post results to score us points in the Volvo Trophy standings, they went out and did it."
