Midfielder makes Angels move

TONBRIDGE Angels have signed their fourth player of the summer with the arrival of Eastbourne Borough midfielder Darren Smith.

The 27-year-old made 26 appearances in Eastbourne’s first team last season and has also had spells with Sittingbourne and Gravesend and Northfleet.

Angels boss Tony Dolby was delighted to add to an already strong midfield, saying: "Darren’’s a very good signing for the club.

"He’s versatile, got a great touch and is a good striker of the ball. All round he’s a good player.

"He plays mainly on the right hand side but can defend as well."

Smith completes a full set of signings for Dolby after the arrival of goalkeeper Jerome John, defender Steve Aris and striker Warren Haughton.

Dolby has taken the opportunity in pre-season to have a look at some of the younger members of the squad and insists the door isn't shut to them.

He said: “We've looked at a few of the younger lads too. You usually only get one or two come through so there’s plenty still in with a chance to impress."
