A BRACE from in-form Carl Rook was the difference between Tonbridge Angels and fierce rivals Maidstone United in the Ryman League Premier Division derby at Longmead on Saturday.

Rook gave the Angels the lead from the penalty spot on 31 minutes after Lee Shearer had been penalised for handball.

The striker, who has now scored 12 goals in 13 matches since signing from Horsham, doubled the advantage seven minutes later after Fraser Logan had headed John Westcott's cross into his path.

Lyden Rowland pulled a goal back for the Stones in the 64th minute when he bundled the ball home after Aaron Lacy's long throw had caused chaos in the Tonbridge area.

Ben Lewis almost snatched an equaliser shortly afterwards but his shot after an excellent turn smashed back off the bar.

But by that time Maidstone were already down to 10 men after Shearer was dismissed after apparently catching Rook with an elbow.

And any realistic chance of a comeback evaporated 15 minutes from time when Rob Owen lashed out at Scott Kinch after losing possession and received a straight red card to reduce the Stones to nine men.
