Captain Scott Wagstaff has committed to stay at Tonbridge next season.

The former Gillingham and Charlton midfielder, 33, joined the National League South outfit in 2022 and has registered 70 appearances to date.

“I’m delighted to be playing for Tonbridge Angels again next season,” he told the club website.

“It’s been a privilege to be captain this year and all the support I’ve had from the fans has been a big part of my decision to stay. I really enjoy working with the gaffer (Jay Saunders) and everyone behind the scenes wants only the best for Tonbridge Angels.

“I will always give 100 per cent and I believe we can achieve something special at this club, and I want to be part of that.

“My family have also grown to love the club.”

Tonbridge have also extended Nathan Odokonyero’s loan from Ebbsfleet for another month, the striker at the double in last weekend’s 4-1 home win against Torquay.

Defender Tariq Hinds and experienced midfielder Sean Shields were also on target in front of a crowd of more than 1,300. Midfielder Ryan Hanson impressed against his old club and was Angels’ man-of-the-match.

Teenage Australian winger Matty Macarthur has signed on loan from Gillingham until the end of the season, as well.

Saunders’ 13th-placed side are set to host relegation-threatened Truro on Saturday.
