Steve McKimm has urged teenager Sid Sollis to be patient with Tonbridge.
The 17-year-old scored twice on his debut, with Alex Akrofi also on target, as Angels won 3-1 at Needham Market in the League Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night.
Sollis is the latest young player to break through at Angels - following the likes of Tashi-Jay Kwayie, who’s banging in goals on loan at East Grinstead.
Angels boss McKimm said: “It was a good opportunity to put Sid in on Tuesday night and he grabbed it with both hands. Before people get carried away, he’s a young lad learning his trade – not long 17. He’ll have a good future here if he’s patient.
“Young lads these days get their head turned by clubs promising the world and when it doesn’t work out or they’re found out, they get thrown to one side.
“I’ve spoken to him and explained how we do things here. He’s got a good head on his shoulders and good parents behind him.”
Tonbridge are likely to loan Sollis out at some point, with McKimm a big believer in young players gaining experience of men’s football.
He said: “You look at Tashi. He’s scored 13 goals in 18 games for East Grinstead. If that lad gets 30 games and scores 15-20 goals, that’s valuable experience."
Angels beat Met Police 2-1 in the Ryman League, Premier Division last weekend, Akrofi and Luke Blewden scoring the goals. They’re eighth going into back-to-back home games against struggling Hendon on Saturday and Burgess Hill on Tuesday.
Nick Wheeler completes a three-match ban against Hendon, while Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson has joined St Neots on a month’s loan.
