Tonbridge Juddians suffered their sixth defeat of the campaign in National League 1, going down 34-15 at home to an impressive Chinnor side on Saturday.
It all started from the first kick-off that TJs couldn’t deal with as Chinnor stretched the home side left and right, eventually allowing Ben Manning to slide through a gap and dive over for the opening try. The ever-reliable James Bourton added the extras.
TJs were able to quickly respond, working their way up the field through a series of penalties which saw Tom White slot their first three points of the day.
Chinnor's big pack was able to overwhelm the TJs with strong carries and tackles. Chinnor’s second try came as George Goss was able to offload out of the tackle to Cameron Terry who charged through to score. At this point TJs were shellshocked and Bourton added an extra three points after a turnover on the floor before the kicker finished off a lovely attacking set in the corner following forward dominance.
Chinnor continued to run riot with a fourth try in 23 minutes. Chilvers, Smith and Bourton all linked up with sensational offloading ability down the right hand side to allow Goss to score a well-deserved try.
In the final ten minutes of the half the home side eventually sprung into life thanks to a lovely break up the right by Duncan Tout. He linked up with Harvey Young who was stopped just short. Chinnor held firm from here before Murray Galbraith-Lowe found space on the left to get TJs on the board just before the half-time whistle.
Things continued to improve for the home side after the break as they found set-piece dominance through the maul and scrum. This led to several penalties and eventually the score from Joe Duffy after another strong drive.
TJs kept the intensity up for the remainder of the second half but just couldn’t find the accuracy required to turn that pressure into points.
Eventually the home side ran out of steam and began to chase the game. George Goss scored his second of the day as Chinnor found space out wide against a tiring TJs defence.
Tonbridge now have a week off before a trip to Cambridge on November 13.
