A teenager rescued a baby pigeon after he saw it being thrown around by a group of boys in Tunbridge Wells.
The youngster watched as the squab was chucked around Meadow Road car park.
Georgina Bowles, an RSPCA inspector, said when the boys saw him they tried to put the tiny bird in a drain before running off on Saturday, February 1.
She said: "This wonderful lad went over and rescued the fledgling and he and his dad took him to Folly Wildlife Centre."
Luckily, the bird had no injuries.
A spokesperson from Folly Wildlife Centre said: "The young pigeon has been given the all clear by our vet and is doing really well and tucking into food.
"He’ll remain with us for a while so we can wean him and then we’ll release him, along with a flock of others we’re caring for, back into the wild together."
Staff at the centre alerted the RSPCA - a charity which works to prevent cruelty to animals - and an investigation has been launched.
Rachel Smith, a deputy chief inspector for the organisation, has reviewed CCTV from the car park.
Georgina Bowles said: "I’d really like to chat to these boys and explain to them how their actions affected this poor bird.
"As part of the RSPCA’s Generation Kind campaign, we’re trying to educate children to ensure the next generation of animal-lovers and pet owners are loving, kind, compassionate and respectful towards all animals."
Anyone with information about the identities of the teenagers responsible is urged to contact the RSPCA’s appeal line on 0300 1238018.
