A town centre bank is set for a revamp which would see eight new apartments built.

If approved, the top floors of the building in Mount Pleasant Road, Tunbridge Wells, will be turned into new accommodation.

The ground floor will remain in use as a bank and there will be minor alterations to the building, including removing two ATMs to allow access for residents.

The late 19th century building is a Grade-II listed and built in 1874.

If given the go ahead, the first, second and third floors will be converted into eight one-bedroom apartments.

There will be no access form the bank on the ground floor to the apartments.

The flat roof od the building will also be converted to create a terrace space for people living on the third floor.

Planning documents on the council's website explained: "Access will be achieved via private staircases.

"Retractable rooflights will provide access and ensure there is no visual obtrusion from the street level.

"A glass balustrade will be installed behind wrought iron detailing, that sits on top of the mansard roof."

The site would gain nine additional cycling spaces from the development.
