A bumbling burglar has been jailed after leaving his own shoes and bike at a crime scene.

Scott Parker broke into a home in Hungershall Park, Tunbridge Wells making off with £4,500 worth of designer handbags, toiletries and pyjama bottoms.

The homeowner called police after spotting Parker, 44, climbing out of his bedroom window just after 7.30am on July 2.

Homeless Parker fled the scene leaving his silver mountain bike, shoes and phone behind.

When police arrived they discovered a handbag, toiletries and clothing on a flat roof and by the back gate.

Phone data placed Parker at the scene and CCTV showed him riding the seized bike.

He was arrested in Mount Pleasant Road the same day, during which he assaulted one officer and racially abused another.

Once in custody he physically and verbally abused staff, urinated over a cell door and custody area floor.

Parker went on to destroy a telephone he was meant to use to call his solicitor.

Yesterday Parker was jailed for 15 months after admitting charges of burglar, assaulting an emergency worker, and two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words to alarm.

He also admitted two shoplifting offences, breaching a criminal behaviour order and two offences of criminal damage.

PC Lucy Basson headed up the case, she said: "Parker not only burgled a home and stole from shops, he also subjected police officers to abhorrent physical and verbal abuse.

"His persistent thieving and disgusting behaviour has resulted in him being taken off the streets. I am pleased he will no longer be a threat to members of the public or police officers."
