A pair of designers who have re-invented the classic duvet cover have proved their sheets really are quicker to change by beating the current world record.

Ben King from Tunbridge Wells and business partner Luke Gray designed the Koa ‘easy-change’ duvet cover with the hope of making everyday chores much simpler.

To prove their design really does make the job easier, Mr King filmed himself changing the sheets in just 26.5 seconds, beating the world record by more than 12 seconds.

Ben King, 30, said: “When we saw the world record was 39.41 seconds we knew we could beat it and we did. With our cover there is no shaking or wrestling, it’s so much less faff.”

Their bed sheets differ from traditional designs as it opens from the middle and the duvet can be tucked inside.

The founders were presented with a £60,000 prize by Deborah Meaden after winning an innovation award from the UK Design Council last year.

The idea first came about when Mr Gray found out his grandmother stopped making the bed because it became too difficult.

Mr Gray, 30, soon found is grandmother was not alone. Koa’s study of 150 people revealed that 78% of people would change the bed more often if it was easier.

He said: “Fitting a duvet cover is such a nightmare. We designed the Koa cover to take the hassle out of changing the sheets and make fresh sheets more delightful.”

Ben and Luke met at Brunel University studying industrial design and later worked together at homewares brand Joseph Joseph.

Koa is launching the duvet cover on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter today at 12pm.
