Engineering student drowned in river off Powder Mill Lane, Tunbridge Wells

An engineering student drowned in a river, an inquest has heard.

Dominic Mawdsley, 23, died in the water off Powder Mill Lane, Tunbridge Wells, on Sunday, August 7.

At the opening of an inquest into the tragedy at County Hall in Maidstone today, coroner Alan Blunsdon heard Mr Mawdsley's body was identified by police.

His cause of death was given as drowning.

The hearing was adjourned until December when a full inquest into the circumstances will take place.
