Former building for St Peter's Primary School in Tunbridge Wells sells at auction for £428,000

A former school building has fetched a larger sum than expected after going under the hammer and could now become flats.
The annexe of the old St Peter's Primary School in North Street used to be one of three locations across Tunbridge Wells in which classes took place with the main site on Windmill Street nearby.
In 2019 it was announced a new facility would be built at Hawkenbury Farm costing £7.1 million and in February 2021 it opened its doors for the first time.
Now the annexe containing the school's old hall has sold at auction with discussion of it being converted into flats.
It had been listed for sale by auctioneers Clive Emson with a potential guide price ranging between £235,000 - £245,000
But after going under the hammer on Wednesday it fetched nearly double that – eventually going to the highest bidder at £428,000.
It was sold freehold with vacant possession and includes an entrance hall, cloakroom, toilets and a former dining room with a gym and a kitchen.
Clive Emson auctioneer Kevin Gilbert said: “There is a garden area included with the former school annex.
“Converting it would require the necessary consents to be obtainable but it is an attractive building.
“The sale had a huge variety of land and property and the market is still strong."
