Hard line Brexiteers have made a fresh bid for a no confidence vote in their local MP.

Members of the Tunbridge Wells' Conservative association had a no confidence motion in Greg Clark dismissed from its AGM on Friday.

Some parts of the party believe the business secretary should step down after he abstained from a vote on whether the UK should leave the EU without a deal.

Mr Clark was one of four cabinet members to abstain from a Parliamentary vote.

The vote's result saw a no-deal Brexit option taken off the table.

John Austen is one of the Tunbridge Wells Conservatives backing a no confidence motion in Mr Clark, as they believe no deal is better than a bad one.

He said: "A lot of people asked who would stand instead of him. That's not what this aims to do.

"It's a wrap across the knuckles at this point.

"Local councillors are going to take the fallout of the Conservative governments failure over delivering Brexit. There's a risk of up to a 1,000 councillors could lose their seat across the country.

"When he spoke at the AGM, Mr Clark seemed to believe in Theresa May's Brexit deal."

In order for a no confidence motion to be heard it must carry 50 signatures.

Mr Austen said the petition was around half way to that mark.
