The children of David Fuller say they are in 'total shock' after hearing about their father's sickening crimes.

The 67-year-old admitted murdering Wendy Knell and Caroline Pierce in Tunbridge Wells in 1987, and had sex with at least 98 dead bodies while he worked at hospitals in Tunbridge Wells.

His ex-wife told The Sun after seeing the trial unfold, his kids feel they 'didn’t know the man'.

Gill Palmer, 65, said: "It’s too horrific. I can’t even take it in myself yet.

"It’s not right on so many levels. It’s just not right. My children can’t talk about it. They’re not in a good frame of mind.

"What came out has been a total shock. It’s their father you’re talking about.

"They didn’t know the man. I didn’t know the man."

Kent police and crime commissioner Matthew Scott says the true scale of Fuller's offending may never be known

Fuller's neighbours also described him as an 'odd' person who never opened his blinds, even in the summer.

Others said he never made eye contact, owned several CCTV cameras, made frequent car journeys in the early hours and was constantly washing his car.

Another neighbour said he is 'worse than a monster, he’s a devil. Pure evil'.

The hospital electrician was arrested on December 3 for the 1987 murders after new DNA evidence was linked to him three decades later.

The murders became one of the UK's longest unsolved double homicide cases.

The moment David Fuller was arrested as his home for the murders of Wendy Knell and Caroline Pierce

Both women lived alone in ground-floor flats less than a mile apart in Tunbridge Wells and worked in the town.

Wendy, 25, was found dead in her bloodstained bed on the morning of June 23, 1987.

Caroline, 20 went missing after being dropped off by a taxi outside her home on November 24 that year.

Her body was discovered in a flooded culvert 40 miles away on Romney Marsh weeks later.

After the arrest, police painstakingly searched his address and found a vile hoard of images and videos of him abusing corpses at mortuaries he had access to at the Kent and Sussex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells and later at the new Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury.

Four hard drives were found concealed around his home and there were also detailed notes of each victim, including their names and dates of death.

In total there was evidence he had sex with 98 bodies, 78 of which have been identified. Three children were among his victims.

On Thursday he sensationally changed his plea to guilty mid-way through his Maidstone Crown Court trial.

He has been remanded in custody to be sentenced at a later date.

The MP for Tunbridge Wells, Greg Clark has asked the government for a public inquiry into the case.

A phone line has been set up in the wake of the case intended for people who feel they may have information about the investigation.
