A Grade II-listed cottage overlooking a green in one of Kent’s quaintest villages has been quickly snapped up after going on the market for just £230,000.

Number 6, Stone Row Cottages in Fordcombe, near Tunbridge Wells, went on the market with Brookbanks Estate Agents at the end of April and was under offer by last Monday.

The sandstone-built terrace property dating from the early 19th century has a single double bedroom and is said to require some upgrading.

It has an extensive back garden with a pond, a view at the front across the village green and is only minutes from a pub, village hall and recreation field.

There is a bus-stop immediately outside. It is a key part of the Fordcombe Conservation Area.

The property was owned by the West Kent Housing Association and for the last 20 years has been let to a single tenant, who died recently.

Linda Atkinson, who was a friend of the former tenant and knows the property well, said: “I think the housing association seriously undervalued it - especially in this location.

“Someone’s got a real bargain.”

A spokesman for the West Kent Housing Association said: “All our disposals are valued by a RICs-qualified valuer prior to going to the market.

“This property has been marketed in accordance with that approach.”
