An online gig hosted by folk singer Frank Turner raised more than £10,000 for a beloved Tunbridge Wells concert venue struggling because of the lockdown.

The 27-year-old former public toilet is an old haunt of the Kerrang Award winner and has also seen Oasis, Adele and Muse take to its stage, but closed last month because of the coronavirus crises.

The venue launched a club for devotees to raise additional funds, but it became clear that a far larger sum of money was needed to secure the institution's future.

The Forum co-founder Jason Dormon said: “Frank is a long-time friend of The Forum, so when he offered to launch a fundraiser for our venue through his Independent Venue Love live stream gig series, we were delighted.

"It’s been heartening to see so many people supporting and donating to keep us going through this crisis.”

Frank's gig on Thursday has been viewed more than 110,000 times and almost 1,000 people donated.

The Forum supports unsigned artists through its Unfest programme and as a host at the annual Local & Live Festival.

Jason said: "The generosity of the local people has been overwhelming, as long as we are able to, we will continue to champion the independent artists and venues that are the life blood of our industry.”
