He is also and international author and has a PhD in the history of state reform from Birkbeck University of London.

He said: "It's clear that people are tired of a decade of austerity, of Conservative and Lib Dem damage to our health service, schools and housing, of broken promises, and of a three-year failure by Tory governments on dealing with Brexit.

"People are telling me that they want real change - change that only Labour can deliver. This is a special election.

"Building on our gains in past general elections, this is the first time Tunbridge Wells could elect a Labour MP.

"Be part of something amazing this Christmas, and vote Labour."
