Road blocked after Tesco lorry hits bridge in Eridge Road in Tunbridge Wells

A road has been blocked after a Tesco lorry hit a railway bridge.

The A26 Eridge Road is shut both ways as emergency services deal with the incident.

It happened near Tunbridge Wells Garden Centre just before 3pm, and traffic is coping well.

Police spokesman Andy Saunders said: "Police were called at 2.35pm after a lorry collided with a railway bridge at a location close to Eridge Road, Tunbridge Wells.

"Officers remain at the scene and recovery of the vehicle is underway.

"The bridge supports a private train line used by the Spa Valley Railway and is not used for commuter travel.

"There are no injuries reported and a structural engineer has been called to asses any potential damage to the bridge."
