Tunbridge Wells man charged with coughing in emergency worker's face as he was asked about Covid-19

A man from Tunbridge Wells has been charged following allegations he deliberately coughed into a police officer's face.

The incident happened on Sunday after the suspect was at Tonbridge police station in relation to another matter.

Darren Turpin was being asked health questions to check for any possible Covid-19 symptoms.

The 51-year-old, of Crendon Park, Southborough, Tunbridge Wells, was then arrested and charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

He pleaded not guilty at Medway Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Turpin was remanded in custody to appear at the same court next Wednesday.
