A lorry driver in his 50s has died after a crash along the A21 near Pembury.

The road was closed in both directions for more than seven hours yesterday after the HGV he was driving came off the road.

The incident happened near the Kipping's Cross roundabout along the A21 Credit to Google Maps (20558083)

The incident took place at around 1pm between Pembury and the Kipping's Cross roundabout and involved a white Scania lorry with a flatbed trailer carrying plant equipment.

Paramedics, police and an air ambulance were called but the driver, from Essex, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

It comes after concerns were raised about the safety of the A21 following the death of Subhash Pai earlier this year.

Initially police thought another car may have been involved but are unsure about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officers are urging anyone who saw the lorry in the moments leading up the crash, or who may have dash cam footage of the area around the time, to contact them.

Witnesses can call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798 538, quoting reference SM/FM/112/19 or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk
