Plans have been submitted to redevelop the site of a former cinema which was demolished three years ago.

The ABC Cinema site in Tunbridge Wells became derelict after the complex closed in 2001.

Although plans to regenerate it were approved in 2009, this planning permission was never implemented.

Last year, the site, off Mount Pleasant Road, was purchased by Altitude UK, a privately owned real estate company.

The company submitted plans to Tunbridge Wells Borough Council (TWBC), which details its wish to rejuvenate the site with a new cinema, retail outlets, restaurants, and 99 homes.

These homes will be one, two, or three bedroom flats, and there will be space for parking.

The planning documents suggest the site would cater for more than 300 full-time employees.

The developer also hopes to add either a further nine dwellings and office space, or a medical centre to the site.

Councillor David Jukes, leader of TWBC, said: "This has the potential to be a great opportunity for the town.

"The scheme appears to fulfill our ambitions for the site, and the development will further the economic growth of the borough. I look forward to seeing construction begin."

Plans can be viewed on TWBC's online planning portal. Anyone wishing to comment on the proposals can do so until Friday, August 11.
