Southborough: Reports of ongoing police incident in Yew Tree Road car park

A man who was arrested by armed police in Tunbridge Wells has been bailed.

Officers were called just before 3pm to a disturbance in St Johns Road, near the junction with Beltring Road in Southborough on Wednesday.

Members of the public reported seeing up to 12 members of the force "kitted out in gear" in Yew Tree Road car park. Another eye-witness said two police cars with sniffer dogs in were also parked in the area.

The teen was arrested yesterday.

A Kent Police spokesman said armed officers were deployed as part of the response to the initial call, based on information received at the time.

Officers made inquiries in the local area, including around Barnetts Close, which was sealed off for a short period.

No-one was seriously hurt in the incident but a man suffered a minor cut to his hand.

No shots were fired by the armed response unit.

One member of the public said nine or 10 police cars were stationed in Southborough library parking area during the incident.

A 26-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He has been bailed pending further inquiries until Thursday, December 3.
