Disruption to Southeastern services between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings after person hit by train

A person has died after being hit by a train.

The tragedy happened between Hastings and Tunbridge Wells at around 2pm.

All services between these stations were stopped, with disruption lasting for six hours while emergency services worked at the scene.

Southeastern bosses initially said commuters could expect delays until 8.30pm, but some trains began running at 5.45pm.

Just before 6.45pm, the Hastings line was reopened so services between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings could resume.

Trains began running normally at 8pm.

No trains were able to call at Frant, Wadhurst, Stonegate, Etchingham, Robertsbridge, Battle, Crowhurst, or West St Leonards while the incident was being dealt with. Replacement buses were also implemented.

British Transport Police confirmed the person had died and a file was being prepared for the coroner.
