A road will be closed for at least another day due to a burst water pipe.

North Farm Road in Southborough, near Tunbridge Wells, was closed by South East Water yesterday (September 18) after a leak was reported overnight.

Access has been blocked between Chapmans Way and Baldwin Lane

Video emerged showing water spouting out over the road with lower parts of it becoming flooded with water.

A spokesperson for the company said it would be fixed by the end of the day but work is still ongoing at the site.

Greg Groombridge, South East Water’s regional leakage manager, said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to residents and businesses in the area by the burst water main.

“The leak has been repaired and we are now working to complete remedial works to return the road to a usable condition.

“To ensure the safety of the public and our workforce, North Farm Road remains closed between Chapman Way and Baldwins Lane and we are working to re-open the road by the end of Friday (September 20).

“We will look to work as safely and quickly as possible to complete this work.”

It means lorries will only have access to the High Brooms Industrial Estate from one way and one business has said the issue has had an effect on trade.

Tamas Szekfi, manager of Tunbridge Wells MOT Ltd, said: “It has already had an impact on us today as we have lost two-thirds of our trade – we tend to try and do 30 MOTs a day but some haven’t turned up whether it be for traffic not being able to get here.

“I have spoken to the workers fixing the road and they say it may take up to a week to fully open the road again meaning I could lose more business.

“It would mean the whole industrial estate will lose trade too as lorries can only get on from one way.”

Tamas wanted to stress anyone heading in for an MOT should leave a bit more time than normal to ensure they make it on time for their appointments.
