A heartbroken mum says she has been left "in millions and millions of pieces" by the death of her son.

Father-of-one Craig Smith, who lived at Pennington Manor in Southborough, died on March 27 at home after pain in his leg turned out to be a blood clot which reached his lungs.

His mother April Marle is now fundraising to help pay for the costs of the 28-year-old former Hayesbrook School pupil's funeral.

She said: "I have set up the fundraiser to help me with the cost of this very sad time which has left me in millions and millions of pieces, not sure how I will cope.

"Craig had a daughter, Eloise, who he loved with all his heart. It has just left me heartbroken."

Mr Smith - who went to St Matthew's High Brooms primary school - had health problems which meant he very rarely left the house.

Katie Weller, Eloise's mum, says the loss of her father has hit their daughter particularly hard, she found out about her dad's death just days before her 10th birthday.

"I really do appreciate everyone's help..."

So far the GoFundMe page set up by his mother has received donations of more than £2,000 towards the costs of the funeral, which will take place on Friday, April 23.

"I really do appreciate everyone's help trying to raise the money to give Craig a send off he deserves," Craig's mother said.
