A man walking on the railway tracks has caused train delays this afternoon.

Southeastern say the man was "apprehended" at 3.10pm, around 40 minutes after the power had been turned off at High Brooms, between Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge.

As a result, the 5.45pm service from Charing Cross to Hastings will now start at 6.29pm at Tonbridge.

The British Transport Police and Network Rail staff are understood to have quickly arrived at the scene.

"The trespasser at High Brooms has been apprehended," a Southeastern spokesman said.

"Trains are on the move but there are delays of around 40 minutes as a result of the incident."

A Network Rail spokesman said: "We can confirm there was an incident of somebody walking along the railway line."

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "British Transport Police were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a man on the tracks, near Tunbridge Wells at around 2pm today.

"Officers attended and the man was taken to a place of safety."
