Two town centre businesses have had their windows smashed, reportedly by a man wielding an axe.

Workers at Hygiene Sue, a training provider in London Road, turned up this morning to find the glass on their shop front cracked.

But after putting the image on social media they were told that they were not the only ones affected, and that a man had been seen in the area with a weapon.

Chelsea Allen, who works at Hygiene Sue, said: "We saw the window had been smashed and didn't think much of it. My boss called the police and the insurers and arranged for it to be boarded up.

"Then someone came in to say another shop had had its window completely smashed by a man with an axe and the same thing had probably happened to us.

"It's quite scary. We were just lucky no one was around at the time and nobody was hurt."

Kent Police is investigating criminal damage to two properties but there was no reports of a man with an axe. Enquiries are ongoing.
