They approached the vehicle after it stopped in Sword Street.

Officers discovered it was bearing false number plates and upon further enquiries, found it had been reported stolen from Lewisham, southeast London earlier this month.

A quantity of suspected class A drugs was also recovered following a search of the car, police said.

The driver, an 18-year-old man from Cranbrook, was arrested on suspicion of theft, possession of class A drugs with intent to supply, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

The passenger, a 26-year-old man from Paddock Wood, was also detained on suspicion of theft and both men were taken into custody.
