Listeners expecting to wake to their normal BBC Radio Kent broadcast instead heard Radio London’s show after a fire scare evacuated Kent’s studios.
Fog machines in a neighbouring Sainsbury’s store are said to have triggered the alarms at the studio in Mount Pleasant Road, Tunbridge Wells, forcing Anna Cookson’s morning show off air.
Audiences tuning in for The Wake Up Call just after 6am were told of a change of schedule by London presenter Jason Rosam.
Cookson tweeted about the interruption, telling her followers the fire alarms had gone off.
The presenter shared a photo of smoke billowing from the store’s entrance.
The shop confirmed the issue and said the machines were turned off about a minute after.
Audiences were kept company by Jason until just before 7am when the broadcast suddenly switched to presenter James Cannon on BBC Radio Surrey.
Normal service has since resumed, with Cookson’s show continuing as normal from 7.20am.
