WEST Kent police have issued a warning to local businesses about a bogus chair repair man following a series of incidents on Tuesday afternoon.
The man called at council premises in Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks and at several businesses in the area.
Using the story that he was a chair repair man, he was able to get into a number of offices, and at one he visited it was later found a credit card had been stolen and used to obtain cash.
The man is believed to be driving a burgundy-coloured Audi car. He is described as being in his mid-30s, with short, receding hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts.
Det Con James Farley, of West Kent CID, said: “As always with distraction crimes, the man was very plausible. His success on this afternoon may encourage him to try the same story with other business in the area.
“It is just as important for businesses to check callers as is it for householders and for people at work to think about the security of their personal possessions.”
If anyone believes they may have been visited by this man, or has other information, they are asked to contact West Kent Police on 01732 370659.
