A WOMAN whose body was recovered from the River Medway in Tonbridge has been identified as 70-year-old Joan Eigenwillig.

Members of the Kent Police Marine Unit responded on Tuesday after a call was received reporting a body in the water near the High Street.

Officers cordoned off the area and diverted traffic while the recovery took place. Mrs Eigenwillig is understood to have lived in Tonbridge.

Police are not treating her death as suspicious. An inquest into the circumstances is due to open early next week.
