The body of man missing from Kent for almost seven months is believed to have been found in a wood.
Police say the body of 29-year-old Doug Carroll was discovered yesterday (Nov 16) in woods near Moulsford in Oxfordshire.
Mr Carroll had been missing from his home in Tunbridge Wells since April.
Det Sgt Nathan Adby from Abingdon police station said: “Sadly, a member of the public has found a man’s body and we believe this to be Doug."
He added that although formal identification had yet to take place, Mr Carroll's next of kin had been informed and were being offered support.
He said: “We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal to find Doug. Our thoughts are with all of Doug’s friends and family at this very difficult time.”
The death is being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious.
A file will be prepared for the coroner.
During the search for Mr Carroll, Thames Valley Police issued images of his car, a grey Peugeot 207 and a Poker Stars backpack they believed he had been carrying.
His partner Emma Tapp, 30, said she last saw him on April 20 when he was due to start a new job.
Speaking in May she said: "He had gone off for a new job that morning but it was not going to work out and he came home. When I got home he was just gone.
"I just knew something was wrong."
She explained he had been out of work for a number of months and had struggled with his mental health in the past but was making good progress dealing with it.
She said: "It's just such a shock. We don't know what's going through his head."
Police later ascertained he had travelled to Reading, Berkshire, and then on to The Ridgeway between the villages of Aldworth and Compton where he abandoned his car.
Miss Tapp said: "We thought he was around here but he had made it to Compton where his car was found. He was born there but only spent a couple of years there. There's no friends or family."
She added: "We would love him home but it's just knowing he's OK."
