A Tunbridge Wells burglar is behind bars after leaving blood at a crime scene.

Sam Coomber fled empty handed after triggering a house alarm when he smashed a patio and window door with a water can in March.

The 27-year-old from Rock Villa Road, Tunbridge Wells, had cut himself on broken glass, leaving a blood stain on a kitchen worktop.

His fingerprints were also found on a window pane of the property in Royal Chase, Tunbridge Wells.

Police tracked Coomber to an address in Southwood Road in March.

When officers tried to arrest the burglar, Coomber tried to run away and spat at police while he was being detained.

In court, Coomber admitted a charge of burglary and resisting officers in the execution of their duty.

Last Friday he was jailed for two years and five months.

DC Bob Fursey said: "Sam Coomber is a prolific offender and although he didn't actually manage to steal anything on this occasion his actions have caused considerable distress and anxiety to the victim.

"People affected by burglary are often still dealing with the consequences a long time after the offence has been committed.

"To spit at police officers is abhorrent and it is only right that Coomber has received a custodial sentence."
