Builders have started working on a site earmarked for a new supermarket in Tunbridge Wells .
Construction of the Lidl store at Old West Station, Broadwater Lane is set to take around five months with a view to opening in spring 2021.
The budget supermarket chain's new location is set to create around 40 jobs.
It will have more than 1350 square metres of sales space, a bakery and parking for both cars and bicycles.
Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Adam Forsdick, commented: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to start construction.
"We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”
The new opening will mean shoppers in the town will no longer have to travel to Tonbridge, the brands current nearest location.
It forms part of the company’s £1.45bn investment in its expansion across the UK.
