A police crackdown to interrupt the supply of drugs in Tunbridge Wells is having an effect.

Plain-clothes officers have been patrolling the streets to catch drug-dealers in the act.

Last Thursday, at 1.45pm police stopped a vehicle in Silverdale Road. A search revealed quantities of cocaine, cash and phones.

Emiljano Perdeda, 23, of no fixed address, subsequently appeared before Medway Magistrates charged with possession of cocaine with intent to supply. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Friday, April 17.

Two other suspects believed to be linked to the supply of class A drugs in the town were arrested the day before, after police executed a search warrant at an address in Mitcham, Surrey.

Bledar Rica, aged 27, of Clay Avenue, Mitcham, was later charged with three counts of possessing cocaine with intent to supply.

Liman Dernova, aged 22, of Tandridge Drive, Orpington, was charged with two counts of being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Both appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court where they were remanded in custody. They will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday, April 9.

The District Commander for Tunbridge Wells, Chief Inspector Pete Steenhuis, said: "We are continuing to robustly target and arrest those who we believe are visiting our town with the sole intention of dealing drugs.

"This isn’t a problem which is going to go away overnight, but every arrest we make is another step in the right direction.

"Our use of both uniformed and plain clothes officers is making it very hard for criminals to operate in this town and there will be no let-up in our determination to keep these people off our streets. "Please report any suspicious behaviour by calling 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress."
