Fire crews are fighting a massive rubbish fire measuring 400 square metres this evening that is sending a large plume of black smoke over west Kent.

A large amount of waste measuring 20 metres by 20 metres. has been set alight near the B2110 Groombridge Hill, near Tunbridge Wells.

Kent Fire and Rescue was called just before 3.30pm to the scene and people living nearby have been told to keep doors and windows closed.

Police were also called, and are at the scene enforcing a road closure on the hill.

One eyewitness has said that cars are being turned around at the nearby farm shop on the junction of the B2110 with Ashurst Road.

The road is closed between the Ashurst Road junction and Groombridge village.

Three fire engines are on the scene and firemen are using a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

Smoke from the fire can reportedly be seen from the A21 bypass.
