A father of two, who caused serious injuries when he crashed his car while racking up his fifth drink-drive conviction, has been jailed for 18 months.
Barry Allen climbed behind the wheel again while drunk just a month after he was banned for three years for a similar offence.
The 36-year-old hurtled onto a roundabout the wrong way on the A21 towards North Farm Road, Tunbridge Wells, and smashed head-on into a Seat car.
Passenger Josh Carly suffered a fractured vertebrae and was out of work for two months. Driver Samuel Usherwood was left with whiplash and back pain.
Allen, of Hectorage Road, Tonbridge, admitted dangerous driving and assault causing actual bodily harm to Mr Carly. He was banned from driving for five years.
He was also convicted of common assault on a police officer and admitted a similar assault on another PC.
Allen, who grew up on the Isle of Sheppey, spat at PC Simon Winder and tried to headbutt PC Asa Buckland.
Prosecutor Alec Williams said Allen was on bail on August 30 this year when he crashed his Peugeot 807 after driving on the wrong side of the road.
After hitting the other car Allen and his passenger ran off into an industrial estate, but were tracked down by police dogs.
Allen, who has 44 previous convictions including a three-year ban for drink driving in July, was breathalysed and found to be more than twice the legal alcohol limit.
Allen will have to take an extended test before he can drive again.
