A long-serving councillor and former mayor of Tunbridge Wells has died.

Len Price was mayor in 2009-2010 and ward member for Culverden from 1998 until he retired from the council in 2014.

Following his retirement, he moved to France with his daughter and died in hospital in October, after a short illness.

During his time with Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, Mr Price served as chairman of the audit committee and vice chairman of the general purposes and overview and scrutiny committee.

He was also a Kent county councillor for 12 years.

Council Leader Alan McDermott said: "My sympathies go to Len’s family. He was someone who always worked hard for the borough and the residents of his ward and his election as Mayor in 2009 was a fitting recognition of this."

During his year as mayor, Mr Price promoted and supported two local charities, The Pickering Cancer Drop-in Centre, and The Tunbridge Wells Multiple Sclerosis Society.
