A Tunbridge Wells gallery will celebrate its 20th anniversary this month.
Fairfax Gallery, set in The Pantiles, will hold an exhibition of recent work from 20 of its leading artists to mark the occasion.
Running from Friday, June 12 to Saturday, September 8, the show spans styles ranging from contemporary figurative through abstract work.
Among those exhibiting are artists who have supported the gallery from the start including royal academician, Fred Cuming, and established artists Helen Sinclair, David Atkins and Alice Scrutton.
Many have produced work especially for the show and catalogue, with new pieces being introduced over the summer to replace those sold.
The exhibition will show new work from winners and finalists of awards such as the National Portrait Gallery’s BP Portrait awards alongside emerging talent.
Gallery owner, Andrew Fairfax Scrutton, believes the its continuing success is due to its recognisable style that has gained it a loyal following.
He loved the idea of juxtaposing a contemporary gallery with such an historic setting and said: “When we opened 20 years ago, the Pantiles was about to start some major renovations and the majority of retailers were antique shops. The question was whether the town could support a contemporary art gallery.”
The gallery, which is based in a listed building, has two floors of exhibition space and offers work of a standard rarely seen outside of London. Mr Fairfax Scrutton added: “Whilst our artworks range from contemporary figurative to abstract work the important theme is that they are all strong examples of their genre.
"He considers himself lucky to spend his working day surrounded by ever changing work and says it is a pleasure to work with such talented artists who trust the gallery to represent and promote them.
