Three fire engines were needed when a gardener's weekend weeding got out of control.
The homeowner had been using a paraffin burner to get rid of weeds when the heat set fire to a wooden outbuilding.
The blaze happened at noon on Sunday at Spring Hill, Fordcombe near Tunbridge Wells.
Fire crews had to use breathing equipment and a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots inside a cavity wall.
They put the fire out using a hose-reel jet before giving the owner safety advice.
Kent Fire and Rescue's community safety manager said: "With any sort of controlled burning, it is important to make sure the surrounding area is clear.
"Make sure the fire is a distance from buildings, fences, foliage or anything else which could catch fire from the radiated heat."
