A huge Christmas shop window display made almost entirely of cake has appeared in a shopping centre.

The giant gingerbread advent calendar can be found in Royal Victoria Place in Tunbridge Wells.

The “Festive Windough” has been created by home baking brand Dr Oetker and took 14 days to build.

It has been made out of 14 kg of fondant icing, 9kg of icing sugar, 3kg of caster sugar, more than 2kg of butter and 26 eggs.

Behind each door of the calendar is a baked gift, decoration or activity that can be recreated at home.

The 3.7m wide and 3m tall cake first appeared on Saturday (November 16) to coincide with the town’s Christmas light switch-on.

The first 1,000 visitors to the display will receive a free recipe card and vouchers.

Head of marketing at Dr Oetker, Jen Johnson, said: “We want our Festive Windough display to help inspire the nation to think outside the box and bake a little joy this Christmas.

“We believe that Christmas isn’t about the expensive gifts or grand gestures, but rather the little moments that make a big difference – such as baking gingerbread as a family or making gifts that mean more to the people you love.

“So, this year why not make some new festive traditions, by getting your family and friends involved in making simple joyful bakes that will make your Christmas extra-special.

“We can’t wait to see how many Brits will be trying their hand at baking from scratch this Christmas.”
