The squeaky voice of comedian Joe Pasquale will soon be used to remind motorists to lock their cars and take valuables with them.

The high-pitched funnyman - whose act includes repeatedly singing "I've got a song that will get on your nerves" - is one of a number of celebrities whose voices will be given to “talking ticket machines” in Tunbridge Wells.

The machines will dispense advice to motorists as they wait for their Pay and Display tickets to be printed.

Others voices used include Boycie from Only Fools and Horses, characters from the television show Little Britain, Elvis Presley and cockney actor Michael Caine.

Some machines will even give out the warnings in the voice of Frank Bruno - though it is not clear whether it will round off its sentence with his signature “do you know what I mean, Harry?”.

The machines are part of a car safety campaign launched by the Tunbridge Wells Community Safety Partnership.

The first talking machines will be unveiled this Friday at the Great Hall car park, Mount Pleasant.

Richard Powell, the borough council’s director of services to the community, will demonstrate the machines in the Great Hall car park where the first ones are being unveiled.

The Community Safety Partnership, which has funded the new machines, is using the initiative to remind people how they can deter thieves and make car parks safer.

Richard Powell, the council’s director of services to the community, said: “This new initiative is a fun way to get across a very serious message. “We hope customers will enjoy the humour whilst taking on board the advice about making life tough for criminals. This is one example of how we are working with our Community Safety Partners to continue to drive down crime in the Tunbridge Wells Borough.”
