A man who attacked a teenager in Tunbridge Wells and subjected her to a serious sexual assault has today been jailed for more than five years.
Mushiur Rahman, 35, targeted the girl after he saw her sitting alone on a bench last year.
He sat down next to her and tried to kiss her. But when she attempted to move away, he grabbed and sexually assaulted her.
It happened on Tonbridge Wells Common near Castle Road last November and the girl managed to flee and stop a passer-by who called the police.
A police investigation led to the recovery of DNA which identified Rahman as the offender. He was arrested on December 1 and initially denied any wrongdoing.
But he later pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to charges of assault by penetration and sexual assault
He was sentenced today to five years and four months.
Detective Constable Samantha Bungay said: "This was a predatory assault carried out in an isolated area of town where Rahman knew there would be very few passers-by.
"He pretended to befriend the victim but then subjected her to a truly terrifying ordeal.
"Rahman is clearly a very dangerous individual and it is pleasing that we have been able to identify and arrest him quickly.
"The streets are certainly a safer place now he is in prison.
"I hope the sentence will provide some reassurance to the victim that at least justice has now been served."
