DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a teenage girl are today still questioning a man after her body was found in a suitcase.

The body of 17-year-old Terry Edmonds, from Tunbridge Wells, was discovered in the suitcase at Morrisons multi storey car park in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday.

A post mortem, carrried out on Sunday, showed she died of asphyxiation. Police have arrested and are questioning a 26-year-old local man.

Police carried out house-to-house inquiries in the town on Monday and fingertip searches of the area around Vale Road, Vale Avenue and Campbell Road. Forensic teams were also searching an address in Hadlow.

Miss Edmonds, described by her family as "a typical teenager", had been missing for two weeks when the discovery was made. She lived a short distance from the car park.

Her mother, Helen, and stepdad Paul Garty, who made an emotional appeal for her to come home last week, were said to be being comforted by relatives and supported by family liaison officers as they come to terms with their loss.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Vale Road area, particularly on Easter Monday, April 17, between 6.30pm and midnight - including anyone carrying a suitcase - to get in touch.

The suitcase Miss Edmonds’ body was found in was turquoise with brown edging.
